Offer 1: Discovering the electrical
heritage
Time needed: 2 hrs
Age group: from 7 years
Objective:
To give the pupils some general knowledge on electricity
through a multi-disciplinary and heritagebased approach.
As they see the collections, the pupils will discover:
- the contribution of the history of science and technology to our knowledge
of the electrical fluid;
- the role of the World Fairs in the second industrial revolution;
- the socio-ethnological upheavals due to the applications of electricity
throughout the XXth century.
Summary:
Whereas since Antiquity numerous scholars had tried
to penetrate the mysteries ofthe electrical fluid, from the end of the
XVIIIth century, others were rapidly catching a glimpse of the many
industrial
and domestic applications of this new type of energy. Throughout the
XXth century, electricity made life more comfortable for aIl. Everyone
remembers outstanding events which could not have existed without electricity:
the televising of man's first steps on the moon or the arrival of the
Intemet in our homes. Intangible and yet omnipresent, who could manage
without it now?
The pupils discover, a rich and fascinating heritage
through theatrical experiences, a prestigious collection and a great
multimedia show.
Group size:
8 to 30 pupils maximum, including accompanying aduits.
Activities:
the electrostatic theatre (30 min); the multimedia show "A machine
and men" (12 min)
Cost:
tickets + guided visit.

Offer 2: Observe, experiment, understand
electricity
Time needed: 2h30
Age group: from 7 years
Objective:
To offer pupils an interactive visit of the Museum that allows them
to approach electricity from the angle of physics, but also from a historical
point of view.
2 one-hour sessions covering:
- what is electricity? A few scientific notions on electricity are presented
in the form of electrostatic experiments where the children can get
involved, and a workshop where they can make an electrical game. These
activities illustrate, amongst other things, the notions of conductive
and insulating materials and electrical circuits.
- the applications of electricity from the end of the XIXth century
to the present day. Through the objects in the Museum's Collection,
the pupils will discover the technological and sociological upheavals
due to the use of electricity.
Organisation of the activities :
two members of staff take charge of one class divided into two groups.
Afier an hour, the groups swap activities.
Teaching aids: a bookiet on the visit for
the pupils.

Picnic
It is possible to picnic in the technological garden, and shelter is available
in case of bad weather. Two pavilions, heated in the winter months, can
accommodate about sixty pupils. They are also equipped with benches.
Remember to book. A cafeteria is available inside the
EDF Electropolis Museum: hot and cold drinks, snack and ices
Cloakrooms
The pupils can leave their belongings (bags, coats...)
in lockers (1€ coin required).
